Mrs. Schade is a beloved math teacher here in Southold. Currently in her fourth year on the team, she's found that Robotics has influenced her both as a teacher and a mother. She loves to influence and guide kids which is why she became a teacher. This is exactly what FIRST Robotics does; she's able to reflect on the team's achievements each year which makes her very proud of our team. In her free time, she loves going to the gym and spending time with her family.
Mr. Gammon is an important figurehead on the team. This is the 3rd year that Mr. Gammon has been actively involved with Robotics. He loves to see all of the growth and progress throughout the six weeks as the season is in full force. He enjoys being a mentor because he gets to see first hand how everyone overcomes the different challenges. His most memorable moment was hearing Team 870 announced at Hofstra as the winner of the Engineering Inspiration award, earning the team an invite to the world championship. If he had to describe the team in one word, it would be awesome, and if he had to do the same for himself, that word would be motivated. When his schedule isn't filled with Robotics, he's fishing and sailing.
Mrs. Chilton believes that safety is our team's number one priority. The lives of the Chilton duo revolve around the build season. She admires the team because of their dedication to the program. Since there was not a program when she was in school, she enjoys jumping in and helping along side the team. She loves seeing the group develop their confidence level; Mrs. Chilton noted that students who join with the least confidence come out with the greatest . Her most memorable moment was in 2010* when the team bounced back from the lowest seed, advanced to the finals, and ultimately finished in the national competition. The team that chose us to be a part of their alliance was featured in the book"The New Cool" by Neal Bascomb, which also included our team. She started getting involved with the LEGO Robotics program in 2005 and has continued ever since, even after her 2 boys graduated. When she isn't guiding the team, she has a ball cooking, baking, gardening, or taking pictures.
Mr. Chilton is a driving force of the progress on our team. Similar to the other members, Mr. Chilton has been changed by the students on the team. Mr. Chilton has been changed by his participation and involvement with Southold Robotics. He never considered himself someone who could pursue teaching, but has found that he has the ability to guide and teach students in the program and really enjoys it. He loves to help build the robot each year in the shop, and he also loves to spend time with the team. His most memorable moment is the same moment as Mrs .Chilton, when the team went from close to last place all the way back up to getting picked for the number one alliance. To sum up the team and himself in one word, Mr .Chilton chose Pride. When he is not consumed by the robotics season, he is restoring old cars ,practicing on the drums, and fishing.
Mrs. Fouchet is the mentor of our business and marketing department. She originally became involved with Team 870 in 2006 as a parent and volunteer and stayed involved through 2016 in this capacity. Now that her sons are out of high school, Mrs. Fouchet has stepped up to support a program she loves using her business background.
